7705 SAR R6.0 Configuration Note Network HSSB MW-LINK Configuration Notes Last
Updated: 2012-12-17 Version
1.0
Introduction:
The A8-PMC MDA is designed to interconnect with 9500 MPR-e
MPT HC/MC/XP radio units and provide a cost efficient method of back-hauling
data without having physical fiber present between two sites that are
geographically separated.
Microwave transport provides the following advantages:
This configuration note will detail the setup a Hot-Standby or Space Diversity microwave link which is available for 9500 MPT-HC/XP models with the additional RPS or XPIC-RPS modules installed on the MPT units along with the fiber/sfp interconnection between the MPT units.
Setup:
In this configuration, two 7705 SAR-8’s will connect via a Hot-Standby 9500 MPT-HC microwave radio link.
Figure 1 – Equipment Overview
Prerequisites:
- Powered SAR shelves with MDA’s installed.
- Mounted MPR-e units plugged in to DATA+POWER ports of MW-PIC-2 MDA via proper CAT5e cable.
- CAT5e cable connected between port 1 of A8-PMC MDA’s and DATA port of MW-PIC-2 MDA’s.
- Computer with the 9500 MPR CT software associated with the R4.1.0 release with IP connectivity to SAR management.
Configuration:
Configure the MDA’s :
*A:SAR8-TEC007# configure card 1
*A:SAR8-TEC007>config>card# info

After MDA configuration, prepare the mw-link capable ethernet ports for mw-link association.

Note: The ethernet encap-type dot1q is required for the following command.
Then, create the mw-link.
*A:SAR8-TEC007>config>port# \configure port mw-link-1 mw
*A:SAR8-TEC007>config>port>mw# info detail

Note: HSSB radio links (eg main/spare) are only supported for network mode ports, and only between matching even and odd pairs of ports with radios operating in no standalone mode.
Then, create the router interface.
*A:SAR8-TEC007>config>port# \configure router interface mwltoSAR8-R

Now the MCT Launcher that is bundled with the 9500 MPR 4.1.0 CT software package, available on Alcatel-Lucent OLCS, will be utilized to configure the local 9500 MPR ODU’s.
Enter the management IP
Address of the local SAR, and the privileged user name and password. The
privileged user must have console access privileges. Then click Finish.
Now, click the green triangle on the left hand side to start the MCT session to the main radio. After acknowlegding authorization, the previously green triangle will transform to a red square, indicating that an MCT session is established. A single radio only supports one MCT session at a time. It is important to perform initial configuration on the main radio first.
Once the targeted MCT application has established the session, the following screen will appear:
As can be seen in the above screen shot, there are 4 configuration tabs:
· Protection
· Radio
· Advanced Radio
· Ethernet Traffic QoS
The following configuration tabs from a stand-a-lone MPR-e are either automatically configured, or the configuration is performed by user in the SAR CLI:
· Date/Time
· Site Information
· Synchronization
· TDM Cross Connection
· Networking
There is no configuration to be performed on the Protection tab, but this screen graphically displays the switch status:
On the Radio tab, the
RF parameters of the channel require configuration:
On the Advanced Radio tab, two enhanced features are available. These are Radio Link Identifier and Packet Throughput Booster.
The Radio Link Identifier feature is for use in densely utilized and congested areas, and raises alarms when the radio receiver locks on to an unintended signal source.
The Packet Throughput Booster feature makes it possible to gain greater data throughput by performing header compression on the transmitted data packets. The magnitude of the gain is data dependent, but for smaller packet sizes, and for IPpv6 format packets, the gain can be very significant.
The fourth and final configuration tab is the Ethernet Traffic QoS tab. The defaults are reasonable for most networks, found below:
Some networks may benefit by changing queue 5 to HQP scheduling, and adding EtherType Classification entries for SSM (8809 Slow Protocols) and LLDP (88CC) as shown below:
This concludes the MPR configuration of the main radio. Now it is important to save the database. This can be accomplished by clicking the flashing indicator on the MCT Launcher:
Alternatively, an \admin save can be executed via the SAR CLI which will also perform a save of the MPR configuratino database.
Repeat the above steps for the spare (even numbered MDA slot) radio, and for the router and radio combination at the other end of the RF link.
Verification and Troubleshooting:
Creating a log for mw-link messages :
